MY LIEBSTER NOMINATION
I love my kinky afro hair. The thickness and unruliness that it proudly possesses is what defines it best. The struggles I go through when disentangling it using the reliable plastic afro comb is one experience that often reminds me of my rich ‘Africanicity’. I hate it when it falls as I comb it though and sometimes I wish I had silky hair, coiffured and hanging neatly on my back, one that could never give me the headaches and would never shrink or roughen when wet. Many times I struggle with bad hair days and it was so on the particular afternoon when I read my name as a nominee of the Liebster awards. I was elated by the gesture and my hair even seemed to have grown a little lighter than it had been before. Thank you Blessing Adejoh for the nomination and for making my hair feel a little lighter, it was truly an honor. Blessing is a polished Ugandan writer. She is one of the most lovable and supportive stranger I have ever met. I do not credit her as a stranger currently because I have known her for a while now. She is a power- driven woman, passionate about Africa and always inclined to positivity and full of life. You probably should check her out on Medium (link.medium.com) at Blessingadejoh.
Liebster in German means sweetest, nicest, kindest, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome. The Liebster Award is an award aimed at recognizing new bloggers, given to bloggers by other bloggers and exists only on the internet.

What is my favorite book and why?
Perhaps we could narrow down this question to my favorite book this yearπ. It is not easy to make a single pick, right? I am a lover of classics and also a loyal fan of fairy tales, the motivation behind the nickname, Pixie, which my little sister found for me but more so, I love books that star children and young people. Many times I just want to view the world through the eyes of a child and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak worked on my pleas accordingly. The book is creatively sculptured and the words are so friendly. The content is fascinating and Markus playfully finds the right words. The star character, Liesel Meminger plays her part elaborately and always steals just the right books. The story of Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust through the eyes of a young girl has never been this interesting and fiery, I assure you.
What song do I currently have on repeat?
My eldest sister Gareth has a poor taste in music. There is no good song she has ever mastered and can comfortably sing from beginning till the end so when she recommended the Nigerian singer Simi, to me, I was reluctant to download her music. She kept on disturbing my ears with how she loves Simi’s music and I gave in finally and started downloading some of her songs. My love for her currently beats my sister’s. Her song Ayo could be repeated for the millionth time and I would still be singing along with the same energy and vigor. Ayo in Yoruba means joy and I am yet to learn the meaning behind every word of the song but for now, I am still savoring in the joy.
Which season (autumn, spring, summer or winter) best describes you?
I am blossoming. I thrive each day, growing, renewing my vigor and venturing to new heights so definitely spring would define me.
In the event of an emergency home evacuation, what is the first item you grab?
My hard disk because probably my phone would be in my hands at the time. Those two items contain a lot that could save my life. Then later I would think of my laptop, documents and definitely my son’s toys, books and piggy bank, there’s no way we are beginning from scratch with those.π
What historical figure would you like to meet and why?
If we could travel back in time and Maya Angelou could still be alive, I would aspire to meet her. I have always wanted to know what drives her since I was a child. Once in Primary school, I had dreamt of shaking hands with her and announcing to her that we shared the name Annie. I had just learnt of her first name, Marguerite Annie Johnson and I was head over heels with the fact we shared a name. I still was not aware why she had changed her name and now that I think of it, perhaps it would have not been a wise idea mentioning that to her.
What makes a good blog?
The voice in the blog. A blog without a voice cannot communicate appropriately. Blogging is a way of reaching out to a particular audience and if the target audience cannot relate with the words in a blog then it is pointless. Sometimes though, we bloggers fall short of what is expected of us and that is inevitable. Everyone knows that human is to err anyway.
Back to the past or forward to the future?
I want to forge ahead. I have been dwelling in the past for far too long and I just want to roar and rule into the future.
Your dream vacation?
I shall live to visit the Bermuda Triangle. Oh, and I should also add that I would love to go through it on a cruise ship. Just for the record, perhaps I should also let people know that I have never been on a cruise ship and never have I stayed on the surface of a water body for more than three hours so definitely the experience will be a daring one but also an adventure to savor. The mysteries underlying the Triangle is something I have always found inviting and if I mysteriously disappear in my travels, then at least it will be recorded in history. But before then, I would also love to physically present myself, face to face, with the pyramids and the mummies of Egypt. I have learnt to love the ancient culture of the Egyptians and sometimes I even allow my hair to speak about my embrace for the culture. I would like to explore the Pharaonic culture to the depths that I can sustain and even wear the timeless makeup and outfits.
The greatest movie of all time
A year before now, I could have gone with Moana, Hotel Transylvania, or Young Sheldon if my friend Willy had not described them as juvenile. Fairy tales, children movies and animations have the best pep talk lines and comic movies fulfill my heart with the right dosage of humor. I am a kind who could watch sitcoms all day and laugh at each line so perhaps I could have also mentioned Rick And Morty, Arrested Development or The Simpsons but honestly, I cannot tag those with ‘the greatest movie of all time.’ The humor might be full and raw but at the end of the day, for me, mystery movies deserve the top rank and to crown it all up, the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The iconic and legendary detective, the extremely sensitive persona and the witty character displayed by Holmes is just super splendid, I do not see any rotten tomatoes. Sherlock Holmes is a movie series starring William Sherlock Scott Holmes and his ever-present companion, Dr. Watson. Everyone should actually watch it.
Wealth or health?
First priority, health. All I ask for is a peaceful mind, a satisfied soul, a beautiful physique and I will be able to climb the tallest mountains and sojourn the earth, with great confidence and immense strength.
Your proudest moment
My dad sometimes used to refer to me as jaduong’ when he was still alive. I never understood why he used the term but I always welcomed it gladly and always felt a fulfillment in my heart whenever he used it. He would say it with a glorious, sincere smile on his face. He meant it well and I understood it. Jaduong’ in my mother tongue is a respectable term used to refer to male elders especially the elderly family men. I never disputed the title when my father used it on me because I knew the status it held. Even though the sound of his voice defined it differently and gave it a feminine touch, I still felt like I was one with the respectable people who deserved it. He made me proud as a young girl and I would love to make him proud as the father to the grown woman I have now become. He always foresaw me as a champion and truly believed in not only me, but also in the rest of my siblings and even though sometimes providing for our every need was a tall order, he always made us feel special. Honestly, I had the best dad anyone could ever ask for and for that, I am proud. I am a proud daughter of my father, Nice pap’, and the fact that he is not here now does not change that at all. So I could say my proudest moment is my position as my father’s daughter, I hope that is acceptable. π

Sitcoms any day all day . haha I loved reading through this Annie. Thank you for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI will differ with Willy in his juvenile description of the listed animations and sitcom. They are wonderful stories. Adults are a large consumer of animated series , and most of the jokes and themes in them go over the heads of children/ young adults.
It's really nice to have someone who understands you like you do me, Docπ π . Thanks for that
